                            - Fibroadenoma are very common benign (non cancerous) tumours arising from stromal & epithelial tissue of breast. It can be seen at any age however it is more commonly seen in women of child bearing age.It is partly hormone linked so may regress after menopause.

                            - Symptoms: commonly present as painless, firm, solitary, mobile, slowly growing lump in breast. Since breast cancer can also present in the same manner, ultrasound helps in accurate differentiation between these conditions.

                            - Findings: Well defined, well encapsulated solid mass with well defined, sharp, lobulated margins. It may show calcification & cavitation.Quantative elastogram helps to diagnosis hardness of mass. Malignant mass lesions are harder than benign lesions. Ultrasould also diagnose their numbers, position, vascularity & degenerative changes, Fibroadenoma larger than 5 cms are known as giant fibroadenoma. Development of malignant changes in fibroadenoma are very rare however giant fibroadenoma may undergo malignant transfomation.
